Construction Specialists offering New Build Homes, Extensions, Conversions, Renovations & Restorations in London & Essex
The latest big news for housing in the UK is the government announcement of 14 new garden villages to be built, delivering 48,000 homes. These are an extension to the initiative that has seen several garden towns and cities springing up across the country, which are intended to alleviate the housing shortage.
Young first time buyers in particular find it extremely difficult nowadays to purchase a home in the area they were brought up in, and are forced to travel further afield. This means possible loss of contact with loved ones, along with having to settle into unfamiliar surroundings. The self sustaining villages, towns and cities when added together will provide 200,000 dwellings nationwide.
The new development plans are designed to target this type of buyer, by offering affordable housing in their local area. There is no ‘single model’ for the villages except that they must feature a self contained network of schools, doctors surgeries and shops. Residents can live and work within their village if they wish, cutting out the need for extensive daily commuting. The scheme will be government funded over two years to the tune of £6m, and each unique village will contain around 1,500 to 10,000 properties. Among the stipulations is the requirement for the homes to be built to exceptional standards, allowing first time buyers a housing solution which is well constructed and problem free.
Thornwood Construction Ltd, work extensively in locations such as Newham, London and Loughton, Essex, providing a high quality range of building services. Recent projects include the extensive conversion of a Loughton warehouse into a shop, involving all steelwork, timber frames and studs. The work also required the installation of air conditioning, electrics and suspended ceilings culminating in a full shop refit.
In another contract we applied the ground breaking Crystic Roof solution to two flats in Newham London. The issue with these flat roofs was that with no insulation, the apartments below were stifling hot in summer, yet freezing in the winter. When expertly applied, the waterproof Crystic Roof coating is a perfect solution to the many issues affecting flat, valley, pitched roofs and balconies.
